Levi Roots makes ‘dynamic return’ to acting after shooting new film Kaleido-Ghost on Waterlees Road in Wisbech
A TV figure was on set in Wisbech last week to shoot a short mystery thriller exploring childhood innocence.
Food entrepreneur, musician, and television personality Levi Roots is making a return to the screen, diving back into the world of acting after he spent time in town filming for his new movie ’Kaleido-Ghost’.
The new film, directed by rising filmmaker and actress Frances Walker, has a strong child cast made up of children from Peterborough, and Roots plays the Rastafarian neighbour to the kids along Wisbech’s Waterlees Road, as Mr Morris.
Filming in Wisbech attracted residents, who were watching and filming on their phones.
One resident of Sherwood Avenue offered the whole cast and crew the use of their home and toilet any time it was needed, which Roots said was a “godsend” with it being “so hot and with everyone drinking so much water, and no public toilets nearby”.
The film, which stars lead child actress Vivienne Aarone, sees Roots take on a character that “marks a bold and intriguing departure from his public persona”.
His involvement in the film adds a unique dimension to the project, with Walker praising his “natural charisma, screen presence, and a likability with the youths of today”.
Roots, a father of eight children, agreed to participate in the film due to working with nationwide schools and youths of today, and noticing the strong child cast.
But that is just the beginning of Roots’ cinematic resurgence. He is also set to appear as himself in ‘Paradise Retreat’, a forthcoming limited drama series.
Roots said: “Getting back into acting has been refreshing and creatively inspiring. I can’t wait for audiences to see what we have been working on.”
Piers Leigh – director of photography for BBC Wilderness with Simon Reeves and Alexander on Netflix – was on set capturing the scenes in Wisbech.
