A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a man was seriously injured in Wisbech last night.

Police say a man in his 50s was attacked in an incident in Church Terrace at around 7.30pm on Friday.

The man was taken to hospital, where his condition is said to be stable, according to a post on the Policing Fenland Facebook page.

The St Peter's Church gardens were cordoned off for much of the night following the incident.

A further post this morning said the youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody. Officers have urged the public not to speculate about his identity.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 450 of March 1, or visit www.cambs.police.uk/report.

Information can also be passed on via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
