UPDATE: More than 500 customers still without electricity in Chatteris

OVER 2,500 customers woke up to no power this morning (Wednesday) after an electricity transformer exploded in Chatteris.

A spokesperson from UK Power Networks said: “Engineers are working as quickly as safely possible to restore power supplies to 530 customers in the Juniper Drive, Birch Avenue area of Chatteris, following a major fault to a piece of equipment at 6.30am this morning.

“Originally 2,578 customers were affected but supplies were restored to 606 customers within five minutes, a further 376 customers at 7.25am, 803 customers at 8am, 40 customers at 8.03am, 85 customers at 8.20am, 85 customers on at 9.30am and 53 customers on at 9.40am.

“We appreciate how difficult it is to be without electricity and apologise to all those affected.”
