UPDATE: Police lift cordon in Norwich Road area of Wisbech




Police say they have now lifted the 100m cordon from around the Norwich Road area of Wisbech after an inspection of suspicious package found it was safe.

A police spokesman said: "This incident has now been resolved. An inspection of the device discovered it was not suspicious. The cordon is being lifted."

Earlier this morning people were being warned to avoid the Norwich Road, Staithe Road and Stow Road areas after the suspicious package was discovered in a bin in Rectory Gardens.

Reports on social media said some residents were being evacuated from their homes while others were not allowed access to their properties.

A police spokesman said earlier: "We are currently dealing with an incident involving a suspicious package in Rectory Gardens, Wisbech.

"Officers are on scene, a 100 metre cordon has been put in place and people are being evacuated from the area.

"Please avoid the area until further notice and keep an eye on here for updates."
