A pensioner has appeared in court accused of sexually abusing a young girl.

James Hughes, 77, whose address was given as Pius Drove, Upwell, faced charges of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13, and citing the girl to engage in sexual activity.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between April 7, 2013, and August 15, 2015.

Hughes appeared before King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, when the case was sent to Norwich Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on February 18.

He was released on conditional bail until then.
