Urgent appeal by stroke club

Wisbech Stroke Club is making an urgent call for more support or it could face closure. The club is holding its annual meeting on February 22 at 1.15pm at Wisbech’s Octavia’s Cafe when it hopes more volunteers will come forward.

Sue Lowe is standing down as chairman due to other commitments and committee member Peter Fewster said she has made a big effort to secure funding for the club, which is in good financial shape.

The group was set up by Cambs County Council’s Stroke Care co-ordinators in 2011 as part of the need for community-based, stroke support services.

From the outset, the aim of professionals, stroke survivors and others involved in its formation was for the club to become independent which it did in December 2011 when volunteers took on the running.

“The club has been working well and is really appreciated by its members and it will be a huge shame if more volunteers do not come forward and it has to close,” added Mr Fewster.

The AGM is open to everyone. If you can help contact Sue on 01945-772824 (evenings) or Peter on 01945-467034.
