POST Office Ltd has announced its public consultation on the relocation of Elm Post Office to Londis Store, 3 Birch Grove, Elm - a few yards from the current site.
The current subpostmaster has resigned and the existing premises are being withdrawn for Post Office use.
Post Office spokesperson Wendy Hamilton said: “It is our intention to maintain Post Office services to our customers in Elm and we are confident that the appointment of Londis to operate a Post Office Local service incorporated into their store will meet the needs of the local community. This move will secure Post Office services to the area in the longer term.
She added: “Post Office Local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services, operated from an open plan counter in an established shop, with a range of key Post Office products and services alongside retail transactions during opening hours.”
Post Office customers will benefit from the extensive opening hours provided by Londis Store including Saturday afternoon and Sunday opening, and longer opening times throughout the week.
Customers will be able to transact a wide range of Post Office services including automated banking services, bill and budget payment schemes, Post Office card account, Postal Orders and postage; inland letters / packets (including Signed For and Special Delivery), inland parcels, international letters, small packets and printed papers.
Parking is available outside the shop and there are plans to install a portable ramp for the step at the entrance. Internally there will be a hearing loop.
During the public consultation Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal. The consultation will close on July 24.
