VJ Day services at Fenland war memorials

Special services will be held at Fenland war memorials during the summer to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The Ven David Flemming will be marking VJ Day on Saturday, August 15, with a series of services in Fenland.

He will be conducting a service at West Walton war memorial at 10am, this will be followed at 10.45am at the Walpole St Andrew memorial and 11.15am in Walpole St Peter.

Refreshments will be available in Walpole St Peter Church after the final service. Everyone is welcome.

Allied forces celebrated VJ Day on August 15, 1945, days after atom bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese did not sign the unconditional surrender until September 2, 1945.
