Volunteers get the VIP treatment at B&M store opening in Chatteris
Bargain hunters in Chatteris had something to celebrate this week with the opening of a new B&M store.
And it was opened by a special group of VIPs – members of the Chatteris Foodbank.
The discount retailer has taken possession of a previous Poundstretcher off Fenland Way (next to Tesco).
After a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme the new store now offers a wider array of high-quality, affordable products for the people of Chatteris.
The launch of the new store will also create 38 jobs for local people.
The new store was unveiled on Wednesday (25) and now boasts a bigger selection of great bargains from the retailer’s ranges including grocery, toiletries, health & beauty, toys, homeware and DIY and much more.
The colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity they thought truly deserved some VIP treatment for the work they do for the community and they chose the team from Chatteris Foodbank to take centre stage and officially cut the ribbon.
Chatteris Foodbank is a volunteer-run charity that dedicates its time to helping local people who are in crisis, by handing out food and toiletries parcels for up to four days.
Each week between 10-15 parcels of food and toiletries are handed out to local individuals and families in need. They never miss a week, even providing food parcels on Christmas day.
They work in partnership with other agencies, such as local schools, doctors’ surgery, job centres and social services. to ensure that those they support receive all the help that they need.
The store manager from B&M said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.”
The store manager also commented: “Chatteris Foodbank really stood out for us, so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done. We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”
