Firefighters have issued a warning after battling a village chimney blaze yesterday

A crew from Wisbech was called to the fire on Main Road in Parson Drove at 2.48pm on Wednesday.

They used specialist equipment to extinguish the blaze and returned to their stations by 3.40pm.

The cause was accidental.

A Fire Service spokesperson said: “Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and brick work inspected regularly, at least once a year.

“The debris build-up in the flue can be set alight when heating the home, which could cause a significant fire. Regular chimney maintenance will help prevent this from happening.”
