Children from the Windmill Primary Federation made up of four Fenland schools celebrates its milestone birthday
It’s been a busy time for one group of Fenland schools as they mark the tenth anniversary of coming together as a federation.
The Windmill Primary Federation, which comprises West Walton, Walpole Highway, Terrington St John and Tilney St Lawrence Primary School, celebrated the anniversary of its formation with games, music and a treat from each school’s parent-teacher association.
The schools at Walpole Highway, Terrington St John. and Tilney St Lawrence initially federated in 2009 to become The Three Schools Federation, then in 2015, West Walton Primary School officially linked up with this federation, and a new one was born: the Windmill Primary Federation.
Becoming a federation has helped the schools to share expertise and to broaden the offer made to all of the children who attend one of the four sites.
Staff benefit from joint development and training, and children have enjoyed many more opportunities to mix at a range of events, including the Young Voices Choir experience, a range of educational school trips, and residential visits to both the North Norfolk coast and further afield to Normandy in France.
Although the schools come together under the banner of the Windmill Primary Federation, it has been important from the very outset that each school maintain its individuality and continue to celebrate its own precious place in the heart of its village community.
As part of the anniversary celebration, school council members and team captains from West Walton carried out research into the four schools to create information posters for each.
