Brewers in Wisbech are raising a celebratory glass after scooping awards at a national contest.

Elgood’s and Sons left the Society of Independent Brewers Awards (SIBA) at BeerX with a gold and silver prizes in the champion speciality beers sections .

The brewery’s new cherry wheat beer took gold in the small pack bottle and cans section.

While the Coolship Fruit, a sour beer, won silver in the keg section.

Office manager Kate Pateman is thrilled with the awards.

She said: “It is absolutely fantastic and always good to have our work recognised.

“They are both new lines, we are branching out into different styles of beer other than the traditional English ales we win awards for.

“There were more than 80 judges and lots of different classes of beer.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have come first in the small pack beer and second in the speciality keg beers.”

The brewery has been producing the wheat beers for three years and the Coolship for two years.

A SIBA spokesman said: “I would like to congratulate the breweries from the East region that have won at SIBA’s National Beer Awards, the pinnacle beer competition in the UK, and hope as many people as possible from the region will seek out these fantastic beers.

“SIBA believes that good beer comes in a variety of formats and it is fantastic to see that the region have taken home silverware in the beer categories.”
