Organisers of this year’s Rose Fair Window Competition are calling for retailers across Wisbech to enter their best dressed window.

Wisbech and District Chamber of Commerce president Kevin Smith is hoping to see more businesses than ever before sending in entries for the annual event.

He said: “It’s a brilliant opportunity for retailers to join in and showcase their products in a creative way. It’s all free publicity for the stores and it just makes the town centre so much more appealing for visitors.

“We want them to leave with the impression that Wisbech is an interesting town and will hopefully want to return.”

He added: “Each year the charity shops do such an amazing job and go really over the top with their presentation - it’s good fun for the staff and we hope to see more businesses joining in for 2016.”

This year’s competition shares the same themes as the floral displays in the churches - the world of fantasy - and the floats - musicals.

The mayor, a Fenland Citizen representative and the President or Vice-president of the Chamber will visit all the entrants on the first day of the Rose Fair, June 29, to choose the winner.

Organisers ask that all entrants make use of their own retail items, not just bought in items, in the displays which are to be judged. The winning shop receives a trophy for the coming year and their photograph published in the Fenland Citizen and on the Chamber’s website, Facebook page and Twitter, all helping to promote their business.

Vice president Sharon Mace said: “You do notice a lot of shoppers in the town stopping to look at the displays which is lovely recognition for the staff’s hard work.”

Completed entry coupons should be handed in to the Horsefair Centre Managers Office letterbox, which is next door to the information room at the bus station.
