A Wisbech nursery could be expanding into a primary school to meet the predicted extra need for spaces.

Plans are underway for Oasis Day Nursery, which is based at the town’s Children’s Centre, to take over a spare classroom at the Orchards Primary School in September.

Along with plans for the satellite centre, the nursery is also shortly due to be expanding into an extra room at the children centre for three afternoons a week.

A report to Cambridgeshire County Council’s children and young people committee yesterday states: “Forecasts completed for the options analysis of early years and childcare need across the whole of the Wisbech locality show that there could be a shortage of between 23 and 68 early years and childcare spaces for eligible two to four year-olds in the Orchards School catchment area in this academic year.”

The council has responsibility for the nursery.
