“Wisbech Town Council has read the remarks attributed to Mr Murat which appear on the Fenland Citizen website. The Council completely refutes the assertion that Mr Murat did not know the hearing on November 18 was a Disciplinary Hearing.
“Documentation in an agreed bundle previously provided to his solicitors together with correspondence with those solicitors and documentation provided by Mr Murat and handed in by him at the hearing clearly and obviously included the description ‘Disciplinary Hearing’. The correspondence made it quite clear that dismissal was an option.
“The Disciplinary Panel considered all the evidence including that furnished by Mr Murat and his representative with thoroughness. It decided that three of the five serious allegations made were proven and that the only appropriate sanction was dismissal for gross misconduct. It was felt only fair to inform Mr Murat as promptly as possible as to the outcome of the Council’s deliberations and hence a letter was hand delivered to him the same day.
