Wisbech Town Council is asking for families or friends to nominate loved ones who have died in 2014 to be remembered during their next meeting.

Last year, the council introduced a new tradition for its final meeting of the year to stand for a minute’s silence to remember people who have died.

At the December 2013 meeting, the silence was dedicated to a list of notable and famous people who had died during 2013 and also to the many people who were not famous but whose more personal contribution had been noted.

The council is now giving residents the opportunity to submit names of people, who have died in 2014 and were born or lived in Wisbech, to be included in the list of those to be remembered.

The final full council meeting of the year is Monday, December 8. Names should be submitted by 5pm that day.

A council statement says: “Having no wish to intrude upon the grief or the personal circumstances of the people of the town, the council would read out only names requested by the family or friends of the deceased person.

“Members would be pleased to see, at the December meeting, members of the public who wish to hear the names read out and to join councillors in a minute’s silence to remember those people and to reflect upon their lives.”

To nominate call the council on 01945 461333 or email wisbechtc@aol.com

Alternatively drop into the council offices at 1 North Brink, Wisbech – between 9am and 3 pm, Monday to Friday.
