EMERGENCY services, including the Magpas Helimedix helicopter, were called to Wisbech cricket club at Harecroft Road on Saturday after a woman impaled her thigh on the brake lever of a bicycle.

The accident happened just after 5.30pm after the woman, who was aged in her 30s, fell from her bike.

Luckily she didn’t suffer any other injuries in the fall and, after being assessed by the Magpas team, she was taken to Peterborough City Hospital by land ambulance.

Firefighters from Wisbech used a cutter to cut the brake lever - which had gone inside the woman’s thigh - free from the bike so that she could be transported to hospital.
