A woman has died after a crash on the A17 .

The 78-year-old woman, who lived in Lincolnshire, was declared dead at the scene of the crash in Walpole Cross Keys on Sunday.

She was driving a silver Mercedes which was involved in a collision with a black BMW at the junction of Sutton Road at 1.20pm.

Firefighters from Lynn South, Terrington St Clement and West Walton were called and cut free the Mercedes driver.

The driver of the BMW, a man, received minor injuries and was taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

The A17 was closed for five hours as a result of the incident.

Sutton Bridge parish council chairman John Grimwood has called for a study to be made of the road to determine the volume of traffic using it.

The A17 was ‘de-trunked’ in 2002.

Councillors have been recommended to approve plans to merge two March Schools.

Maple Grove Infant School and Westwood Junior School could be merged to create Westwood Primary School in September if the proposal is approved.

Cambridgeshire County Council’s children and young people’s committee was due to make a decision on the proposal at a meeting yesterday.

Officers had recommended that the committee: “agree publication on March 13 of the statutory notices required to give effect to the proposal to close Maple Grove Infant School and extend the age range of Westwood Junior School, March, to become an all-through primary school.”
