Wisbech woman 'not well-used to drinking' got behind the wheel
A woman from Wisbech without a driving licence decided to get behind the wheel while two-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit.
Diana Vaitkeviciute (31) was in the Audi TT without lights on when she was stopped by police in Clarkson Avenue at 11.25pm on August 30.
She failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. An evidential test gave a reading of 92 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath; the legal limit is 35.
At King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Vaitkeviciute, of Lilac Close, admitted drink-driving, having no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
In mitigation, solicitor George Sorrell said: “She went to a party and not being well used to drinking, because she doesn’t usually drink to excess, she became drunk. A point in time came when she had to leave and decided to take the car.”
Mr Sorrell said she had bought the car in July for £1,050 with money sent to her by her cousin in Lithuania. He added: “I wouldn’t want the court to not think this was the first and only occasion she used that car.”
Vaitkeviciute was banned from driving for 23 months and given a 12-month community order with 100 hours’ unpaid work. For having no insurance she was fined £350 and there was no separate penalty for the licence offence. She was told to pay £85 costs and £90 victim surcharge.
