Work kicks-off on £1.2m 3G pitch in Wisbech St Mary
Work is finally underway on a new football £1.2million 3G football pitch in a Fenland village and it should be ready for use within weeks.
Construction began last week at Wisbech St Mary Football Club on the new 3G football pitch which is expected to be ready for play in around 14 weeks time.
It will replace the existing first team pitch and be a fantastic new facility, and with 29 teams playing at the club it will make a real difference.
The village is the benefiting from the new pitch thanks to fresh investment into grassroots sports facilities with a grant of $878,583.
It has been made possible thanks to the funding which has come from the Premier League, the Government’s Football Foundation and the FA.
The new pitch means the community will be able to enjoy access to quality training and matchday facilities.
MP Steve Barclay, who has campaigned for better sports facilities locally, paid a visit to the community centre to see the work for himself.
He said: “Well done to everyone who has helped, and in particular Martin Holmes, Paul Albutt, together with Katie Critchley from Cambridgeshire FA, who have all been crucial in ensuring this scheme secured the funding needed.
