Evergreen Club

The meeting was opened by chairperson Margaret Bishop. Birthday greetings and handkerchiefs were given to Mrs Wilshire, Mrs Winters, Mrs Fountain, Mrs Somerville and Gordon Smith. Minutes were read by Sylvia Calver and financial details were given by Joyce Stringer. Draw tickets were sold by Doreen Smith and winners were Mrs Bycroft, Mrs Wright, Mrs Somerville (3), Mrs Oxbury, Mrs Brand (2), Mrs Wilshire, Mrs Potter, R Clingo, Mrs Worth, Mrs Nicholl, Mrs Dorks (2), B North, Mrs Allen (2) and Mrs Levitt. Margaret auctioned donated items assisted by Joyce, Janet and Doris. Bingo caller was Ron Allen with tickets sold by Maureen Smalley. Winners were Mrs Dorks, N Gray, D Calver, Mrs Brand, Mrs Smith, Mrs Maycroft, Mrs Mannelle, Mrs Calver, R Chapman, Mrs Winters and Mrs Oxbury (2). The next meeting on September 17 will be the Harvest Festival at 1pm.


Birthdays this month are Betty Pears, Pam Handley, Barbara Ward and Sue King. The speaker was Bev Briggs who did a talk about personal shopping. Refreshments were served by Margaret Hitch and Sue King. The next month’s harvest supper was discussed and a request for members to bring donations for the auction.


Senior Citizens’ Club

Chairperson John Granger welcomed members and gave out birthday cards and gifts to Barbara Fountain and Betty Johnson. Minutes were read by secretary Eileen Granger. Shirley Allen gave the financial report. Linda Pennicott did the raffle. Wally Blazey did the football tickets. Winners: Arthur Thompson and Maureen Roberson. Wally Blazey did the bingo. Winners: Arthur Thompson, Mary Chapman, Marian Stannard, Peggy Cowling (2) and John Granger. Bowls winners: Ray Chapman, Graham Roberson and Arthur Thompson. Hoops winner: Brenda Lead. Masie Bassett and Marian Stannard did refreshments assisted by helpers. Ron did the auction assisted by John Granger. The next meeting will be September 18 at 2pm with Wiltshire Farm Foods.


Friendship Club

Chairperson Marilyn Pryke welcomed back Jane Shaw. Birthdays were celebrated for Joan Gardner, Vera Beeston and Angela Gregory. The auctioneer was Marilyn Pryke. The football was won by Gwen Singleterry. Raffle winners were Marilyn Pryke, Mary Cardin and Bill Deal. The bingo caller was Ben Pratt and the winners were, Derek Clarke and Jane Shaw. Tea and cakes were served by Yvonne Hunter, Heather Brooks and Sylvia Neill. The next meeting will be on September 18 at 2pm.



Members and visitors enjoyed a Harvest Supper. The speaker was Kirstyn Samolis known as the Ginger Bread Lady. The harvest produce was auctioned, proceeds of which are going to the Macmillan Centre at North Cambs Hospital. Results of competition for something beginning with O: 5pts Mrs G Fox, Mrs N Rose and Mrs S Selby; 4pts Mrs K Phillips, Mrs G Webb and Mrs C Pomfrett; 3pts Mrs J Thompson; 2pts Mrs G Jones and Mrs J Smalley. Next meeting October 1 at 7pm, flower arrangements for autumn by Mrs T Middleton and competition something beginning with P.


Methodist Chapel

There is a harvest festival coffee morning on Saturday 14 September from 10am to noon with various stalls selling homemade cakes and preserves, produce, bric-a-brac etc. Homemade blueberry muffins and scones with coffee and tea will be available all morning. The harvest service on Sunday 15 September will be conducted by Rev Peter Dewdney with Eurig Jones as the soloist. Tea and cake will follow. Everyone welcome.


All Saints Church

Vestry hour is on Wednesday at 6.30pm in the church. This is for arranging weddings, baptisms and banns etc. Services this week are Sunday 8am Holy Communion and 10.30am Battle of Britain service, everyone welcome. The next coffee morning is on Friday, September 13 at 10am in the community room in the church. Beavers meet in the village hall on Thursday at 6pm, Cubs meet at St Peter’s Junior School on Wednesday at 6.30pm.


Rotary Club

Members enjoyed a dinner meeting at Beechwood House, Leverington. Speaker was Jean Haynes from Surrey, who worked as a female bailiff. President Jon Martin congratulated Bill Redmayne on his appointment as District Governor of the Rotary Organisation. Rotary meet at the Red Lion, North Brink, on Tuesday evenings. Flower Club

The next meeting is September 16 at 7.30pm in St Peter’s Church Hall with the return of Jean Crane demonstrating ‘A Backward Glance’. New members and guests always welcome. Call Yvonne on 01945-581360.

Arthritis Club

Chairperson Mavis Shailes welcomed members and wished Mary Macdonald a happy birthday. Margaret Maur was welcomed back. There was music from husband and wife team Kath and Ernie Cave. Refreshments were served by Brenda and Rosemary, the raffle was organised by Freda, Mavis and Sylvia picked out the lucky numbers. The next meeting will be the Harvest Festival on September 18 at 1pm at the Rosmini Centre.


Wimblington Fifty Plus Club

Next meeting is September 17 when we will have an ‘Afternoon at the Races’ presented and commentated on by Martyn Dent, raising money for BREAK. At our October meeting Stuart Limpus will give a talk on gardening. Meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at Wimblington Parish Hall, Addison Road from 2-4pm.
