The meeting started with members enjoying fish and chips and a glass of wine. Birthdays for December and January are Pauline Hawksley, Liz Maxey and Betty Jermey. It was the AGM and the tellers were Wendy Green and Chris Smith from Walsoken WI. The president, secretary and treasurer gave their annual reports. The committee was re-elected and Janet Kenworthy was voted in as president for 2014. The next meeting is February 6.


Friendship Club

Chairperson Marilyn Pryke opened the meeting. Members enjoyed their Christmas dinner at the Oliver Twist restaurant. Derek Clarke’s birthday was celebrated. Kath Wersching was the auctioneer of items brought in by the members. Football games winner was Angela Gregory. Raffle winners were Sheila Ellis, Andrew Taylor, Heather Brooks. Beverages were served by Yvonne Hunter, Carol Leet and Heather Brooks. Bingo games caller was Andrew Taylor, winners were Edna Brittain, John Gregory, Carol Leet and Margaret Deal. Next meeting is January 8 at 2pm.

Leverington Ladies

Twenty three members and 11 visitors were welcomed by Ros Conaty to the club’s Christmas party held on December 10 at the village hall. All enjoyed a meal, prepared by the committee and entertainment was provided by Brian Heyhoe, who played guitar and sang a range of Christmas songs and hymns as well as ‘oldies’ throughout the evening.

The results of the fundraising quiz held at the last meeting were given the winner (drawn from the correct answers) was Julia Hatcher. A Christmas quiz was available to buy and answers to be given in January. The raffle was won by Teresa Dellar, Kath Wersching, Christine Crockett, Margaret Cutler, Marilyn Pryke, Lesley Thorpe, Chris Farenden, Ann Copperwheat and Margaret Fishe.

December birthdays were celebrated by Ellen Edmeades, Kate Cook, Joan Janz and Kath Ayers.

Next meeting is January 14 at the Village Hall at 7.30pm.

Tydd St Giles

Methodist Church

A Christmas carol service will be held at the Methodist Chapel on Sunday December 22 at 2.30pm conducted by Sue Askew and the soloist is Eurig Jones. Christmas refreshments will be served afterwards. All welcome.


Friendship Club

The Club held their fortnightly meeting in the village hall on December 5. Chairman David Beeton welcomed members and reported on the club outing to Wicksteed to see ‘Hooray for Hollywood.’ The menu was agreed and monies collected for the Christmas dinner, after which members played cards and bingo, caller was Mavis Giggins. The raffle was organised by Arthur Leonard assisted by David, winners were Audrey Hallam, Audrey Bright and Molly Leonard. The lucky squares game was organised by Edna Payne, winners were Rosemary Martin, Cyril Collins, Audrey Hallam and Pat Rose. After tea and biscuits goods donated by members were auctioned by David, assisted by Marilyn Dawson and Arthur Leonard. Money raised is to support the club. Anyone interested in joining the club should call David on 01945-420654.


All Saints Church

Vestry hour is on Wednesday at 6.30pm in the church. This is for arranging weddings, baptisms and banns etc. Services this week are Sunday 8am Holy Communion, 10.30am morning worship, 6.30pm carols by candlelight. Come and join us at this beautiful service to celebrate Christmas time. Christmas Eve 11.30pm Midnight Communionm Christmas Day 10am morning worship. The next coffee morning is on Friday, December 20 at 10am in the community room in the church. Father Christmas will be visiting and everyone is welcome. A big thank you to all those who answered our plea for wheelchairs recently in the Citizen. Merry Christmas from the Rector and everyone at All Saints Walsoken. Please join us at any of our services at this festive time.


B&P Club

Members attended the AGM and chairman Derrick Holmes thanked the committee. He also thanked secretary David Bruch and Tracy Saberton, treasurer Stuart Warren and speaker finder David Hodgson. He highlighted the annual ball, the Newmarket trip and the golf day organised by Rick Wilson. The new chairman is Phillip Tolley who thanked Derrick for being chairman for a second year. The fundraising for the new chairman’s charities will be presented to Talking2Minds and Wisbech Sea Cadets. The next meeting on January 8 will include a professional speaker John McGovern, an ex-professional footballer.

Centre WI

The most recent meeting was the Christmas Party. Deborah welcomed everyone. June had made separate flower arrangements of red roses for each table and the Christmas decorations made the hall look festive. Shirley and Val were both given birthday gifts and cards. The treasurer and secretary gave their reports. Several upcoming events such as a calligraphy workshop and a patchwork day were mentioned. Sean Moyses provided the party entertainment with singing and playing the banjo, guitar and ukulele. Members of the committee served party food. Special mention must be made here of the Christmas cake made by Joan and decorated by Vanessa who also made a ginger cake. Tea, coffee and Bucks Fizz went down well.

The next meeting is February 6 at 2pm in the Rosmini Centre with speaker Mr Jacklin from John Lewis. New members are welcome.
