Ratings ‘claptrap’

I must take issue with this delusional clap trap you see on hotel, holiday, pension and insurance advertisements claiming, “5 star defaqto” rating.

The definition of defaqto is, “legally recognised or not!” So, if I said: “I am God’s gift to women!” I could award myself a “5 star defaqto” rating and pretend I am something special because, I said so, if you get what I mean.

Defaqto is basically a legal term to stop you suing me for a “false misleading representation” of something.

They also say “expert rated”, erh who does the rating? And what is the assessment criteria?

In other words it’s just a piece of psychological retail sector claptrap. So for the make-up industry I’ve got a new one – “trowelon”, face wrinkle cream.
