A fun event for the community

COULD I, through your letters page, as organiser of the this year’s Festival Parade, thank the Mayor Cllr Jan Fench and her entourage, the lovely Gala Queen and her assistant and all those wonderful local groups in their splendid costumes who took part and helped make the event such a success.

Thanks also to the vehicle owners especially Vivien the vintage fire engine. Congratulations to the Best in Parade and the judges Steve Barclay MP and Patsy Brewin.

My thanks also to the police, the many voluntary stewards and chief steward Cllr Mark Purser for their help in ‘getting the show on the road’.

Finally to the March Festival Committee for their encouragement. I’ve enjoyed my stint as parade organiser - it’s a lovely fun event for the whole community without whose support there wouldn’t be a parade.

Incidentally, contrary to the impression some people may have perceived from the kind words in the programme by our chairman Marcus Phillips, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be around next year to help my successor.
