Building is not a church

I READ with interest the Citizen’s article on the opening of the new church in Benwick (August 15).

There is no church in Benwick. There is an extension to the village hall that the Friends of Benwick Church can use to have pray meetings but it is not a church and can never be one.

The friends of Benwick Church were told from the start that the extension could never be a church as it is a public building, that means for everyone, not just for a religious group.

The parish council who own the lease of the hall do not have the power to allow a church to be built on public land, so therefore it is not a church.

People cannot get married there. The Bishop or no one has the right to try to make that building into a church.
