Hoping lights stop problems

IN January 2011 we were told that Inspector Andy Sullivan would not allow his officers to patrol the Waterlees Adventure playground in Wisbech after 8pm (when it was dark) due to health and safety reasons.

We are now told now that the playground is to remain unlocked and when play is being supervised by staff it will have high intensity lighting and outside staffed hours will be left unlocked, but will in winter have low intensity lighting left on.

Perhaps this will make it safe enough for the local police officers to visit it on their patrols. Let’s hope that with the £6,000 initiative from the Fire Authority to generate other interests in the area, that the level of arson and anti-social behaviour will be significantly reduced.

We wonder why, when the grand scheme for this playground was floated and then carried out, things like lighting, security and access were not thought through and planned for?
