I don’t believe too much should be made of the rise of UKIP.
Flash in the pan, similar to the Social Democratic Labour Party who then became Liberal Democrats. Let’s put voting figures into perspective using an average constituency and average figures. Take the eligible voters or those on the Electoral Roll, then use a 30 percent turnout. then those who voted UKIP say 25 percent - 25 percent of 30 percent is 7.5 percent. So, 92.5 percent either didn’t vote or didn’t vote UKIP, take your choice. Or, looking at the figures another way, 22.5 percent of the 30 percent didn’t vote UKIP. If I was a betting man I would put money on the fact that UKIP won’t get an MP in 2015.
