MR WALKER’S knowledge of the working of the railways would appear to be limited.
To suggest a double track would need to be laid between Wisbech and March for a journey of a maximum of 15 minutes is ludicrous.
A single track would most certainly be adequate. I worked on the track in the Wisbech Platelayer Gang in 1958 and for many years.
The track then was 95lb Bullhead Track.
Ninety per cent of the track now is the same and entirely unsuitable for passenger traffic. The cost to relay a single track between Wisbech and March, I would estimate £1 million minimum.
