Tales of Rev Wilbert Awdry

AS Awdry House, named after the Rev Wilbert Awdry, is in the news, I wondered if you would be interested in a human interest story.

In the early 1960s I was employed as a construction worker building electricity pylons. We were posted to Wisbech to build the pylons that are across the Fens.

We were in lodgings in Wisbech and like several of the constructional crews, I met a local girl.

She was from Emneth and we married in 1965 at St Edmund’s Church Emneth and the ceremony was conducted by Rev Wilbert Awdry.

I think we might have been the last ones on his list.
