MOST readers will I am sure, be aware of the monthly newspaper collections in City Road Car Park (Second Saturday 9am-noon) by the Rotary Club of March. This is to say a big ‘Thank You’ to those members of the Public who support us throughout the year, come snow, rain, or shine. The money raised from this are wholly used to fund ‘Kids Out’, where local youngsters are taken out for a ‘fun and educational day’.
This happened on the June 13, when 27 children from five local schools, Burrowmoor, Cavalry, All Saints, Thomas Eaton and Westwood, were taken to Sacrewell Farm, at Thornhaugh, Peterborough.
They were looked after by 14 carers, three FACT 16 seat buses, left at 9.30am from Westwood School and returned all to their schools by 3pm.
A buffet meal for all the children and carers was supplied, a ‘Kids Out’ cap and a nominal £1 a child pocket money, gave them all a tractor and trailer ride around the farm and full access to Sacrewell Farm, with its water mill, animals and play areas. Rotarian Mike Enderby, his wife Julia and President, John Orbell, supervised the trip and joined in the ice creams.
The total cost was just over £600. There is of course, a limit to how many can physically be included, imposed by both finance and manpower. But it is the intention of March Rotary Club to continue this project far into the future, and with the kind donations of newspapers by members of the public, this will be achieved.
