Wisbech Market Place debate

WITH regard to the letter in the Citizen October 12 ‘Wishes of the people should paramount’ relating to Wisbech Market Place.

Yes, the wishes of the people should be paramount and the Labour Party choose to ignore the most comprehensive and recent survey which clearly showed that people want a compromise for Wisbech Market Place.

This proposal is for over half of the Market Place to be completely pedestrianised and the remainder to have short-term parking on non-market days.

It allows for:

• people with disabilities to continue to use the Market Place

• deliveries

• short term daytime parking on non-market days

• evening and Sunday parking

• And effective pedestrianisation of over half of the Market Place.

Wisbech Town Council is doing what most people want.

I sincerely hope that ‘new’ Labour will support this compromise and demonstrate they too believe that our town centre is too important to play Party politics with.
