Team will have to regroup and even recruit in the new year

By Fenland Citizen Reporter

Despite a strong team on paper our local East Midland Winter League sides Sensas Mark One had a poor league campaign this year by their high standards, writes Ken Wade.

They will have to regroup and even recruit and come out fighting if they want to make any headway in the HAJAC Winter League that will be getting underway in the new year.

The North Level Drain continues to fish well and on Sunday the Tydd Gote club match on the venue saw Andrew Kilby and Steve Borrett battle it out for the top spot, Kilby just edging it with 9lb 5oz thanks to a few quality roach on the pole late in the match.

But it was touch and go as Borrett found small rudd on and off all day to his far bank waggler line to put 8lb 3oz on the scales.

Grzegorz Chalat maintained his fine run of form with 6lb 7oz for third place on the long pole.

Tydd Gote Wednesday Open North Level Drain at Main Road: 1 Mike Asker, 11lb 8oz; 2 Dan Abbott, 8lb 10oz; 3 John Taylor 8lb 2oz.

The Townsend Lakes match on Sunday was fished on the Woodpecker Pool.

Recent frosts meant that it was tough going, but the leading weights were respectable.

Top rod with 49lb 2oz from peg 6 was Andrew Rose.

He fished a bomb and pellet approach, before switching to a long pole line late in the match.

Runner-up was Sam Hawks on 32lb 2oz, fishing a Method feeder and pole.

Then came Colin Begbie with 20lb 2oz.
