With less than a month to go, it’s full steam ahead for National Fishing Month (NFM) organised by the Angling Trades Association and its supporting partners.
To date, over 250 events (running between July 19 and 26 August 2013) have been registered on the official NFM website (www.nationalfishingmonth.com), each detailing when, where and how anyone who wants to learn more about fishing can take part at events in their local area.
The Professional Anglers’ Association (PAA) is just one of many bodies that support National Fishing Month. This year, they have kindly donated a four figure sum of cash to support the running of the initiative. This is over and above the many hours of support and coaching that the PAA coaches and Directors give in running their own NFM events as well as coaching at showcase events such as the CLA Game Fair and the Evesham festival.
The CLA Game Fair at Ragley Hall will herald the launch of NFM on July 19 with coarse and game coaching sessions on the lake organised by members of the PAA and the Game Anglers Instructors Association (GAIA).
Everyone who participates in a NFM event will receive a ‘goodie bag’ containing a ‘Get into Fishing’ booklet full of information on how to get started and advice on different types of fishing, stickers and a fishing log book. They will also be presented with a certificate of participation as a memento of their days fishing.
A number of ATA manufacturer members have donated tackle and products to NFM organisers. These generous companies include Daiwa, Dinsmores, Hardy/Greys, Lureflash, Maver, Leeda, Pure Fishing, Shimano, Tricast, Korda, Middy and Nash Tackle. High street retailer, Sports Direct, has donated a significant number of their bespoke fishing kits, which will be used as prizes at a number of events across the country.
As part of their supporting package for NFM, the Environment Agency has waived any day licence fees for people taking part in a registered NFM event.
Angling can definitely make a difference to anyone who is introduced to the sport and taking part in a National Fishing Month event could be the first step to a new hobby.
