Fenland Rods fished the prolific Oak Pool on the Decoy Lakes complex at the weekend and with a few extra pegs available they spread the anglers out around the lake, writes Ken Wade.
The decision to give anglers room was a wise one as some huge weights were recorded, and none better than James Garner’s huge 200lb 6oz net of fish.
Drawn on fancied peg 18 James fished cat meat on the short pole line, coming into the margins late on to secure the win with some very big carp to double figures. Runner-up was Matthew Lutkin, who was also fishing meat close in and bagged 185lb 6oz. Kev Lee came in third on 174lb 9oz, followed by Dave Garner with 147lb 6oz.
It’s been a really busy time at Townsend Lakes. The Sunday open match was spread over two lakes as so many anglers turned up to fish. The in-form Andy Adams topped the field with a fine 102lb 5oz net of carp taken on a Method feeder and long pole from peg 1. He had a peg to peg battle with runner-up Dave Priestley on peg 2, who caught 95lb fishing similar tactics for second place, followed by Sam Hawks on 90lb 3oz.
The charity match Townsend Lakes held for cancer care at Queen Elizabeth hospital in King’s Lynn in memory of Ron Wesley again saw a really good attendance fished on both lakes. This time it was Sam Hawks topping the field from the Woodpecker pool with 63lb 10oz. Runner-up with 63lb 1oz was Ashley Kinsey, followed by Andy Adams with a level 52lb. The fishery would like to thank everyone for their support with the event which raised £650 for the charity.
In the Saturday open match at Rookery Waters it was Jimmy Brooks continuing with his excellent form from peg 38.
The Norfolk-based rod started on the Method to catch lots of small carp before alternating between his margin lines for a 140lb 4oz total
Runner-up from peg 13 was Tom Edwards who fished maggots and ground bait down the edge for 129lb, followed by John Cartwright on 117lb 2oz.
Top rod in the latest Spratts AC match fished on the Horseshoe Pool at Decoy Lakes was Martin Parker, who drew peg 2 and fished up in the water with pellet for 135lb 12oz. At the next peg was Mick Raby. He came close, fishing paste down the margin for 131lb 4oz. Third place went to Trevor Cousins. He fished the bomb and pellet and later meat in the margins for 124lb 4oz.
In the Tydd Gote AC Wednesday match Len Smith put 12lb 12oz to the scales to take the top spot, Dick Paul had 10lb for second, followed by John Taylor on 8lb 110z.
Jamie Cooper took the honours in the Thursday evening match with 13lb 13oz. Weights fell away then, Sammy McSpadden coming second with 3lb 6oz and then it was Colin Gibbons with 3lb 4oz.
Sunday’s match on the North Level Drain saw Pete Emery out in front with 9lb 2oz, runner-up was Ray Groom on 7lb 12oz with Andy Greenwood third with 3lb 12oz.
