It has not been easy fishing over the past few weeks as anglers struggle in the less than favourable conditions yet it would seem that Willowcroft Fishery at Wisbech St Mary keeps on producing the goods.

Well it did for a couple of local rods fishing a long weekend on the Six Island Pool. Adam Huber decided to fish peg eight while his mate Gavin Shepard fished next door on peg seven.

The pair had some wonderful sport, in fact they alternated pegs in the end to ensure they both had carp and catfish action. Between them they took several 30lb carp and a string of 20lb plus catfish, the session topped off by a fine 35lb 7oz mirror carp.

Over at Townsend Fishery, the recently formed Rose and Crown Angling club had a good turnout for their latest match fished on the Cuckoo Canal Pool. Once again Paul Hollingsworth took the top spot, he looks to be the man to beat right now, topping the field with a fine 128lb 6oz.

Paul took a good net of silvers then had a cracking late run of carp on sweetcorn close in. Runner-up was Harry Morgan, he fished down the middle and the margins for 97lb 2oz followed by Percy Baxter with 85lb 4oz.

Sunday’s open match on the same lake saw fishery boss Colin Begbie taking the honours from peg 32. Colin started on the long pole line but soon had the fish feeding well close in putting 108lb 10oz to the scales all taken on pellet and sweetcorn. Harry Morgan fished pole and pellet to take second place with 103lb 14oz followed by Alan Owen with 101lb 1oz.

Headfen Fishery

This is starting to produce some much improved sport, top rod on the Snake pool in the recent open was Steve Jackson, he drew peg five and took a net of carp fished down the middle with pellet for 111lb. Runner-up was Dave Rodwell on 89lb 12oz followed by Matt Ayers on 86lb.

The Trevs Lake open was in fact a Fishery qualifier for the big jackpot prize fish off later in the year, winner of this one was the consistent Dave Rodwell, he topped a strong field with 37lb 2oz, most fish taken on the tip from peg 33. Runner up was Kevin Shelley on 36lb 14oz followed by Pete Lambdin with 28lb 14oz.

Fenland Rods

Again fishing the “Strips” at Decoy Lakes at the weekend, on the Elm Pool, which saw Kevin Beavis taking the honours with 66lb 5oz.

The March rod fished close in with maggot catching steadily all day. Mac Campbell was second, after a poor start he managed to find fish close in during the latter stages of the match to finish on 54lb 8 ½ oz. Third Dave Stimpson on peg 10 alternating between pole and feeder for 51lb 8 ½ oz.

This weekend’s club match will be on the Jay Lake at Pidley

Fields End Water Fishery

Senior Citizens Tuesday matches have started at Doddington, the first one saw Les Palmer out in front from peg 8.

Weights were on the low side as the first three hours of the event was after an overnight frost, wind then rain made it very difficult to fish at all. Les fished a small Method feeder with red maggot to finish on a level 39lb. Runner up was Martin Parker with 37lb taken on sweetcorn followed by Albert Hawkins with 28lb 1oz.

At the weekend Littleport Leisure Angling Club fished the Match Lake, Stuart Naylor came out on top with 59lb 12oz of carp and Ide taken on the waggler with pellet. Runner up with 42lb 8oz was Scott Whitehead followed by Peter Murfitt with 28lb 4oz.

Rookery Farm Fishery, Pidley

There was a disappointing turnout for the regular Friday Open Match, perhaps the poor weather of late kept a few away. Fished on the Magpie Pool Ramsey rod Duncan Folkes topped with 48lb 8oz from peg 1. Duncan fished meat down the edge netting carp to double figures. Jim Garrity came in second on 44lb 12oz followed by Chris Saunders on 31lb 14oz.

Ramsey AS

A good match on the Willow Pool at Decoy lakes at the weekend, Pete Holland topped a good field with 117lb 8oz taken from peg 24 on the tip with pellet. Runner-up was John Price on a level 77lb followed by Josh Pace with 66lb. This Sunday’s match will be fished on the Beastie Pool at Decoy Lakes.

Fishery boss Richard Button took a convincing victory in the Tuesday evening match at his Buttonhole Fishery, with 60lb 10oz from peg 18. Second Jamie Crown 46lb 14oz, Mark Grange with 43lb 8oz.

Sunday saw Bob Bates taking the top spot in round one of the Sensas Spring League, he drew peg 18 and weighed in a level 70lb, runner-up with 49lb 11oz was Rob hewison followed by Dave Corcoran on 48lb 14oz.
