Les and Marc top Buttonhole

It’s been a very busy time for Buttonhole Fishery recently starting with the Tuesday Evening match which saw Les Barry taking the top spot with 99lb.

Les fished on peg 2 and caught well with luncheon meat over sweetcorn. Paul Spleasant fished a feeder to the island with corn to take the runner-up spot putting 87lb 15oz to the scales followed by Marc Bradford with 83lb 5oz.

All eyes then turned to the Saturday Buttonhole Qualifier which saw some cracking weights taken, out in front from peg 23 was Marc Bradford, he fished a Method feeder to record 172lb 1oz. Runner-up was Mark Grange who had 130lb 8oz on the pellet waggler followed by Sammy McSpadden on 111lb 6oz.

On Sunday it was visiting Webbs AC that took to the water with Robbie Blackmore taking a convincing victory putting 125lb 9oz to the scales from peg 7, all his fish falling to a pellet and paste approach. Brian Ogden was not far off the pace with 113lb followed by Alan Forster on 85lb 15oz.

The final round of what has been a very successful Sensas Mark One Spring series around our local waters finished off at Townsend Fishery.

Darren Croft topped the list with 111lb 11oz, all carp taken from peg 13 on a small Method feeder. Fishery boss Colin Begbie has been going back through his list of match results and is sure the weight was in fact a lake record.

Liam Darlier took the runner-up spot on 57lb 14oz, followed by John Bates with 48lb 14oz.

Top points on day were John Bates and Josh Pace on 7 points, but there was no stopping Ricky Young from taking the series crown with a score of 45 points.

League overall: 1 Ricky Young 45 points, 2 Alan Lemmon 39, 3 Josh Pace 32, =4 John Bates & Mick Asker 31.

Most of the anglers really struggled for bites as almost gale like winds and at times heavy rain lashed down the Willow Lake on the Decoy Complex, making fishing very difficult indeed for the Fenland Rods anglers. It was tight at the top of the winners list though, in fact there was nothing to seperate Tim Bates and Kev Lee both finishing on a level 100lb. Both fished the margins, Tim on sweetcorn with Kev catching well on meat. James Garner came third with 79lb 2oz followed by Mac Campbell with 61lb 15oz The club are on the Buttonhole Lake this weekend.

Yew Lake was the venue for the latest Spratts AC rods, perhaps one of the best lakes on the Decoy Complex right now and that showed in the fine weights taken in this match.

Top rod was the in form John Smith who fished the margins from corner peg 15, catching well on meat all day to finish on 120lb 5oz. Leading the chasing pack was Peter Spriggs, he fished the paste on the long pole line and also in the margins to weigh in 115lb 15oz. Then came Mick Raby and Trevor Cousins both putting a level 100lb to the scales.
