In the third round of the Mark One Sensas Series fished at Buttonhole Fishery on Sunday big fish expert Ricky Young showed the field a clean pair of heels.
He bagged the winning carp weight with a massive 167lb 2oz net of carp all taken close in on sweetcorn over a bed of casters from peg 19. Sammy McSpadden came in second he put a total of 120lb 1oz to the scales which included 16lb 3oz of silvers which gave him the top silver fish weight on the day and he turned out to be the top points scorer on the day also. Third place went to Ricky James on 96lb 1oz followed by Andy Spencer with 92lb 8oz.
Fenland Rods fished the small carp lake at Kingsland yesterday and despite the early morning frost the lake fished quite well although the wind whipping across the fens made it very cold at times. How wonderful to report a win for 82-year-old Joe Bedford, he fished into the wind using feeder tactics, alternated between hair rigged corn and pellet to put a match winning weight of 77lb 7 ½ oz to the scales. In second place at the top of the lake was Kevin Beavis, he fished the margins to finish on 72lb 12 ½ oz followed by Kevin Lee on 71lb 11oz.
On Saturday Fenland Rods are back on the Decoy complex fishing the Willow Pool.
Spratt’s A C fished their midweek match on the Willows at Decoy which saw Colin Varney take a convincing victory from one of the fancied pegs, 24. Colin fished the pellet out on the long pole, alternating the depth to catch lots of small carp together with barbel and tench to put an excellent 108lb 3oz to the scales. Trevor Cousins came in second with 76lb 5oz, he fished meat close in on peg 35 at the back of the island. Then came Martin Parker, third with 59lb 5oz from peg 16, all caught close in with meat.
Metal Box were out at the weekend, they fished at Gedney Hill on the Mill View fishery. The consistent Jim Allen took the honours with 43lb 13oz, Jim fished a Method feeder in open water loaded with 2mm pellets and luncheon meat on the hook. In the runner-up spot with 27lb 5oz was Rodney Melnyk, he fished down the edge with maggot hook bait. Third place went to Shaun Buddle with 22lb 15oz.
It was close at the top in the latest Townsend Lakes Fishery Open, Ashley Kinsey just easing ahead of the chasing Steven Hillman with 54lb 8oz from peg 23, all his fish falling to a small Method feeder. On peg 22 Steven also fished the feeder although he did catch close in too, finishing just short of the top spot with 46lb 8oz. Derrick Upson came in third with 25lb 10oz taken on the pole with pellet.
