Bean nudged out of medals in Wisbech cycling championships
The East District 25-mile Cycling Championships were run on the Wisbech TT course in damp cool conditions but the rain held off and road spray was minimal.
Top local rider Dan Bloy of Velovelocity took the the honours in 53.18, and his team-mate Paul Jay was second with 54.49. Wisbech rider Andy Bean with 56.36 was nudged out of the medals by Steve Gorbett of Diss & District CC who took third in 55.08.
On the previous Tuesday Triathlete, Mat McClure, was quickest in the Wisbech evening ‘10’ series dead on 23 minutes and with a nagging wind once again the times were poor.
Several Wisbech riders travelled to Attleborough the next evening to compete in the CC Breckland Open ‘10’ but once again conditions were far from ideal and a fast course was transformed into a headwind slog on the home leg.
McClure was not entirely unhappy with his 22.29 as it gave him a nine-second victory over Wisbech fast man Bean with 22.38.
