Jody Betts has been confirmed as the new March Town Cricket Club captain following the club’s AGM on Tuesday last week.
Betts was previously captain from 2003 to 2005, to be succeeded by Chris Ringham who has done the job since then up until last season.
The year 2014 will be remembered for two farewells: by club skipper Ringham after a distinguished nine years, and secondly by adopted Aussie Steve Seymour who returned home after an extended highly successful stay. During that time March beat several leading local clubs on route to the final of the 20-over Jaidka Cup tournament.
Both Betts (2005) and Ringham (2007) have led the side to the Cambs League title, and Ringham took over 300 wickets during his term of office.
‘Skinny’ Seymour first played for the club as resident overseas player in 2008. During that period he has scored over 4,000 runs at an average over 40 with 14 centuries; plus 200 wickets.
Seymour retained the Ian Bradshaw Shield as the Saturday 1st XI Player of the Year for 2014. He was awarded Honorary Vice President’s status for his services.
Other Aussie, batting all rounder Stephen Shaw scored more than 1,000 runs and took 22 wickets.
Stephen summed up his spell at March: “Time here has been great, the club has been very welcoming and my teammates have been great and have become good mates.
“Cricket-wise the season has been up and down but the experience has been amazing. I’m very thankful for the opportunity March Town Cricket Club has given me to play in England.”
