Wisbech are trying to finalise an overseas player from Australia for next season after Sam Brandon has decided not to return to the club this summer.

Brandon, a 6ft 6in fast bowler, played for Wisbech two seasons ago but said at the weekend: “I cannot afford to make the trip now but could be back in 2013.”

Wisbech skipper James Williams said: “We have all-rounder Adam Meads from Byron Bay lined up to come but he is waiting for his visa.”

Williams is on the way back to full fitness after his shoulder injury curtailed last season for an operation.

Williams said: “I have been bowling in the nets and the shoulder seems fine. I am having some trouble with throwing, but I have started some physio this week.”

Sam Albutt looks like playing for Long Sutton next season, but Williams said: “I have a couple of new players interested in joining Wisbech and they would definitely improve the side.”
