Fantastic win on the road for Whittlesey Athletic, but disappointing home defeat for March Town and Wisbech Town

Whittlesey Athletic pulled off a fantastic away win this afternoon, while Wisbech Town and March Town both suffered disappointing home defeats. Parson Drove’s game was a victim of the weather.

Athletic won 2-1 at a Kings Park Rangers side undefeated in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North all season, Scott Waumsley and Tom Papworth-Boston scoring the goals in Suffolk. Athletic rise to seventh after the victory, just two points from the play-off places.

Matthew Hayden had given the home team the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, but the visitors equalised before the break and sealed the victory from the penalty spot in the second half to make it four league games without defeat. Danny Foulger was named man of the match.

Luke Hipwell’s Wisbech suffered a third United Counties Premier North defeat on the trot against a Blackstones side, like themselves, just behind the play-off places.

Top scorer Luke Harris gave The Fenmen the lead after just two minutes with a free kick from the edge of the box for his eighth of the season, but William Bestwick equalised for the Stamford side after 19 minutes.

Three minutes later, The Fenmen beat the offside trap and Sam Harris netted his third of the campaign to make it 2-1, but Lewis Walker scored for Stones to make it 2-2 nine minutes before the break.

Nathan Rudman sealed the victory for the visitors with a penalty on the hour.

UCL South side March were knocked out of the League Cup by UCL North side Gresley at home.

Rovers hit the bar after nine minutes but took the lead midway through the first half through Sam Moore, and the striker added a second shortly before half-time.

Flo Tsaguim’s seventh goal in ten games got The Hares back in the match five minutes after the break, but it was not enough to prevent Ash Taylor’s side from going down to a fourth defeat in their last five home fixtures.
