Chatteris finished off the season in style with a comfortable nine-wicket victory over March Town 2nd XI.
Chatteris won the toss and decided to bowl first. The introduction of S. Piper livened the game up a bit, with two wickets in consecutive overs to remove both opening batsmen. Tight bowling from K. Cunningham (1-7).
Two players from Chatteris Under 15’s made their 1st XI debut, with 15 year old Gugan Kupendran finishing with figures of 4-0-6-0 and 14 year old L. Parnell 7-0-29-0.
March increased the run rate scoring 107 runs from the last 15 overs thanks to 63 from John Wallis and 30 from T. Schaffter to finish their innings on 152-4.
K. Cunningham and A. Bamford scored at five an over for the first 10 overs. R. Green slowed the run rate down a bit and picked up the wicket of Bamford for 25. This brought to the crease fine prospect B. Hollis, who finished on 29 not out.
Cunningham carried his bat for a well worked 99 not out, just falling short of his third century of the season, and hit the winning runs in the 34th over to record the club’s 10th win.
Chatteris captain Anthony Palmer said: “I am glad that we have turned things around and finished fourth this season, which is a massive improvement. We have got a lot of very promising youngsters coming through.
“I would also like to congratulate Paul Foster and the 2nd XI for their promotion into Junior 2.”
