Chatteris Kingfishers first past the post at Newmarket

The junior squad of the Chatteris Kingfishers travelled to Newmarket to compete in the third round of the Junior Fenland League, hosted by First Strokes from Godmanchester.

The small team delivered an amazing performance to finish in first place. They achieved 32 personal bests out of the 44 individual races, 13 first places, 11 second places and five third places.

The final results were Chatteris 147, Deepings 144, Ely 135, First Strokes 118 and Huntingdon 111.

First places were achieved by Thomas Hanley (11) in 11/U and 12/U 50m butterfly, Chloe Cook (10) in 10/U 50m butterfly and 11/u 50m back, breast and front crawl, Anastassja Herdien (10) in 10/u 50m back and breaststroke(big p.b.’s), Riley Astley (11) in 12/U 50m backstroke and 11 and 12/U 50m breaststroke, Megan Dawson (12) in 13/U 100m I.M. and Finley Harper (13) in 13/U 50m butterfly in which he broke the cut-off time.

Several of these swimmers also swam to second places, with Thomas Hanley doing so in 12/u 100m I.M. and 13/U 50m front crawl, Chloe Cook in 12/U 100m I.M. and 50m backstroke and 11/u 50m butterfly, Riley Astley in 12/U 50m front crawl and Megan Dawson in 13/U 50m butterfly (in a big p.b. time).

They were joined in second place finishes by Hallie White (11) for 12/U 50m breaststroke and 13/U 50m breaststroke and Ben Noble (9) in 25m butterfly, in a new club record time. The relay team also finished in second place.

Respectable third spots were reached by Molly Noble (11) in 12/U 50m butterfly, Harry Rayner (10) in 10/U 50m butterfly, Maisie Harper (11) in 12/U 50m front crawl, Melissa Ablett in 10/U 50m breaststroke and again Riley Astley (11) in 13/U 50m backstroke.

Eight-year-old Thomas Ashton swam his first competitive gala and the other swimmers were Hayden Wareing and Thea Hanley.

Tyler Thomas (13), who swam so well in the Regional championships, has now been selected to swim in the National championships in July in the 50 and 100m backstroke events.
