Classy Wisbech Vets reach the national final
Wisbech Town Vets 7
Farnham Vets 2
Wisbech Town Vets reached the national veterans final at the Olympic Park after beating Aldershot and Farnham on Sunday.
Even though the opposition had a long trip from Surrey they created a couple of chances in the first 10 minutes which they didn’t take advantage of.
The home side responded in emphatic fashion with four goals in a 15-minute period with Brad Apted leading them on a merry dance.
Jody Betts scored two unstoppable drag flicks and then provided a pass for Sam Markillie to deflect in.
Apted beat four defenders and passed to Markillie to convert.
After good work from Markillie and Apted the ball fell to Nick Osborn who arrowed into the bottom corner. Although dazed, Aldershot responded well with two goals.
In the second half Wisbech forwards caused more problems but Aldershot defenders coped better.
After good work from Richard Claxton another short corner was earned which Betts converted to complete his hat-trick.
Finally Ex-New Zealand international Apted completed the scoring after rounding the keeper.
An excellent team performance with a special mention to Markillie and Apted who both showed their class. Wisbech now face Norwich Dragons in the final on May 1.
