Another half-century and a five wicket haul from Saranga Rajaguru helped March Town beat table-toppers and arch rivals Wisbech by 26 runs at The Avenue in Rutland League Division One on Sunday.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder figured in a second wicket stand of 88 with Adam Conyard (26) on his way to 59, of which 50 were struck in boundaries, during the March total of 224-8.

Will Curtis bagged two early scalps after tea, only for Cambs county player Gary Freear to threaten to win the match for Wisbech single handedly.

He struck 112 runs from 118 balls before falling to the left-arm bowling of Curtis Oldroyd, who had never taken a first team wicket before!

Rajaguru, the leading run-scorer and wicket taker in the top division, mopped up the tail for figures of 5-20, as the visitors were dismissed for 198.

March bounced back to make it three Saturday wins from four games in Whitings League Division 1, beating second in the table Eaton Socon by eight wickets in a rain affected match.

A glorious second wicket partnership of 108 runs between in-form Rajaguru and Brandon Phillips saw the visitors chase down a revised target of 164 off 34 overs after tea. The match was originally been reduced to 40 overs.

Rajaguru, who scored an unbeaten ton the previous week, struck a sweet 77 off the same amount of balls, while opener Phillips batted well for his 39. Sam Clarke earlier took 3-34.
