Cup upset as Outwell Swifts too good for Chatteris Town.





There was an upset in the North Cambs Junior Cup, where Cambs County League 2B side Outwell Swifts beat Peterborough League Division One outfit Chatteris Town.

The prolific Adan-Jay Lewis netted twice to make it eight this season, and Terry Davis was also on target, with Sam Bond and Josh Joyce getting the Lilies goals.

Cambs Division 1B side Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) are through to the next round after a 4-2 penalty shoot-out success over Peterborough League Division Two outfit Whittlesey Athletic Development, with the game having finished 1-1 after 90 minutes. Dillon Stevens scored the goal for Athletic. There was a walkover win for Cambs 1B outfit March Town A as 4B side Guyhirn were unable to raise a team.

March Academy Adults triumphed 3-2 at Wisbech Town Acorns in the all-Cambs 4B affair, Jake Day and Scott McManus netting for Acorns but Jack Conyard, Charlie Robinson and sub John Kurz scoring the goals to put Academy through to the next round.

Finally, Peterborough Division One side Wisbech Town Reserves lost 3-1 at Thorney of Division Three, Dylan Rust scoring for the Fenmen.

Leverington Sports are firmly back in the Peterborough League Premier Division title race after a thumping 8-0 win at bottom side Netherton United.

Five goals from Kieran Hamilton took him to 22 for the season, and Josh Balding, Dale Palmer and sub Kieran Bates were also on target as Leverington rose to third place, just two points off the top spot.

And Tydd boosted their survival hope with their second win of the campaign, 2-1 over fellow strugglers Ramsey Town. The home side were 1-0 down at half time, but Jamie Biggs scored in 55th minute to make it 1-1 and Brad Easey got the winner a minute from the end.

In Division One, Long Sutton Athletic lost 3-2 at Glinton & Northborough, and in Division Two, Leverington Sports Reserves were held 1-1 at home to Deeping United Reserves, Alphie Barrett scoring for Sports. In the same division, Sutton Bridge United lost 5-2 at home to Whaplode Drove Rovers, Alex Clements-Limb and Craig Pack netting for Bridge.

The search for a point goes on for Long Sutton Athletic Reserves, beaten 12-0 at home by YDP in Division Three. And in Division Four, Leverington Sports A drew 3-3 at home with Wittering, Grady Goode netting twice for Sports and Craig Bradshaw also scoring.

Wisbech St Mary achieved just their second win of the season when they beat higher placed Foxton 3-2 at home in the Premier Division of the Cambs County League on Saturday.

Saints had the best possible start when Brad Foxwell gave them a second-minute lead with an acrobatic volley, but the visitors equalised to make it 1-1 at the break.

Adam Groves was the Saints hero after 50 minutes when he saved a penalty, but Foxton still took the lead after 66 minutes.

However, back came Saints and a bullet header from Robbie Knight equalised after 79 minutes before Andy Willmott’s rocket secured the win in the second minute of added-on time.

In Senior B, Wimblington suffered only their second defeat of the season, beaten 3-2 at Histon Reserves, with Gary Smith and Martin Porter scoring.. And in 1B, Chatteris Town Reserves lost 2-1 at Stretham.

Wisbech St Mary Reserves drew 1-1 at Huntingdon United Reserves in 2B but thought their performance was good enough for the win, Ryan Shinn scoring. Manea United lost 2-1 at The Eagle (Ely), Matthew Eggleton scoring for United.

Manea United Reserves were beaten 5-2 at home in 4B by Hartford Rangers Reserves, Delano Lloyd scoring both United goals, and Upwell Town lost 6-3 at home to Willingham Wolves, Ryan Brazil netting twice and Tom Crowson getting the other for Town.
