Team Velovelocity take honours in both men’s and women’s race with two ex-King’s Lynn riders
Cycling: The promise of record times on a fast course elsewhere tempted many riders away from annual Wisbech open 25-mile TT on Sunday.
But those decided to stick with the Wisbech promotion were rewarded with good racing on a calm and sunny morning whereas the other event was cancelled at the last moment due to problems on the course, writes Pete Baldwin.
Team Velovelocity took the honours in both the men’s and women’s race with two ex-King’s Lynn riders now racing for the squad which has hoovered up a lot of local talent in recent times.
Daniel Bloy was first overall in 52.44 and lady vet Kay Burgess took the women’s prize with 1.03.28. In the 40-49 category Vet, Kevin Hobb from Peterborough CC was fastest as well as second overall. Regular visitor to the Wisbech club, John Surtees of CES Sport, took the 50-59 group plus third overall and John Royal from Fenland Clarion the fastest competitor over 60 in 1.01.30.
The Tuesday evening events were put on hold after an accident on the course and a review of safety but have now recommenced although poor weather and uncertainty have taken their toll on numbers, which takes nothing away from 40+ Jon Talbot’s victory last Tuesday in 23.32.
