Fenland football round-up: March Town lose at home to Rugby Borough; Wisbech beaten by Melton Town and Drove defeated by Stanway Pegasus

There were defeats for all of Fenland's senior football teams in their respective fixtures this afternoon.

March Town were beaten 1-0 in the UCL Premier Division South while Wisbech Town suffered a 3-1 loss to Melton Town in the UCL North and Parson Drove lost 3-2 to Stanway Pegasus in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North.

March Town's ten-game unbeaten league and cup run was ended by Rugby Borough at Robin Goodfellows Lane - a result that saw the visitors leapfrog the Hares up to third in the league standings.

The only goal of the game was scored by Mx Proudlock in the second half.

Next up for Ash Taylor's side is a trip to fifth-placed Northampton O.N.Chenecks next weekend.

March Town: Gill, Green, Saunders (Biggs), Withers, Emmington, Brumby, Burrows (Cowie), Foy, Gillies (Rider), Tait, Cotton.

At Fountain Fresh Park, there was no joy for Wisbech Town who were condemned to their second home defeat in the space of four days against play-off-chasing Melton.

William Norcross' opening goal midway through the first half was cancelled out by Jon Challinor as the Fenmen went into the break level.

Yaegan Gore fired the visitors ahead 13 minutes into the second half before a second goal for Norcross in injury time wrapped up the three points for the Pork Pie Army.

The result leaves the Fenmen 16th in the table - four points clear of the dropzone.

Next up for Wisbech is a trip to Belper United next weekend.

Wisbech Town: Lakin, Perry-Burdett (Nicholson), Wilson (Papworh-Boston), Barker, Mattless, Freeman (Braham), Bennett (Lennon), Williams (Foster), Frew, Allen, Challinor.

A gallant second half fightback from Parson Drove wasn't quite enough as they lost by the odd goal in five to Stanway Pegasus at Main Road.

Drove were two goals down at one stage before Kevin Robalo pulled a goal back for the hosts.

Pegasus restored their two-goal cushion, only for Modou Gaye to add a second for Drove to set up a tense finale.

Next up for Drove, who stay ninth in the league standings, is a trip to Gorleston Reserves next weekend.
