Great win for Whittlesey Athletic, late heartache for Wisbech Town, home humiliation for March Town and Parson Drove well beaten by leaders

Whittlesey Athletic were the only Fenland football team to put points on the board today as Wisbech Town suffered late away heartache, March Town were humiliated at home, and Parson Drove were well beaten on the road.

Athletic climb to 10th in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North table after 11 games, having inflicted on visitors Framlingham Town a first league defeat of the campaign.

Man of the Match Max Williams netted twice for his first goals of the season and and Kieran Hibbins notched his third as the Suffolk side were sent packing.

Both sides had a man red-carded, with Jack Bates seeing red for Athletic as they pulled off their best result of the season to beat The Castlemen, one of this season’s promotion favourites.

One place below Whittlesey and on the same points are Parson Drove, who went down 4-1 in Essex to unbeaten league leaders Holland.

The Tangerines scored early on, netted a second before the break and were four-up before Tyran Stewart hit a late one and his first of the season for the visitors.

In the United Counties Premier South, March Town suffered a disastrous result, going down 2-1 at home to GNG Oadby, who had only one point from ten fixtures before today’s game.

The Leicestershire side led 1-0 at the break through Emanuel Nnjani but were pegged back by Toby Allen’s ninth goal of the season in the 55th minute before they scored again through Apetorgbor to clinch an unexpected victory.

The defeat leaves The Hares in ninth place but only two points from the play-off places.

Wisbech Town fall to eight in the United Counties Premier North and are four points from the play-offs after a 1-0 defeat at Sherwood Colliery, who rise to third.
