Fenland driver continues good progress in Formula Vee Championship at Cadwell Park
Fenland race ace Bill Garner has extended his lead of the Class B UK Formula Vee Championship.
Testing on Friday was halted immediately with a broken engine part, but with the assistance of mechanic Toby George and parts from AHS Motorsport Lutterworth, the No.12 car was back on the circuit for the rest of the sessions.
Qualifying on Saturday secured fifth place and third-row starts for both races of the weekend.
Garner's opening outing resulted in a fourth-place finish overall and first in Class B with an extra point for the fastest lap.
He looked set for the same result in his second race until a spin two laps from the end lost five places, but Garner managed to fight back and secure eighth overall and the Class B fastest lap and win.
Results from this weekend now mean a 39-point lead in the B Championship, fifth in the overall championship and second in the Masters Championship (for drivers over 45 years).
Garner said: "Frustrated with eighth place on the day but on reflection a good set of results, the team were a bit down on outright speed and certainly struggled with old rear tyres of which none were available in the country before the meeting."
Now halfway through the season, focus is switched to Brands Hatch on August 23 for the next two races.
Garner has been boosted by the assistance of new sponsors to the team in the form of Maggie, Aimi and Lucy at The Potting Shed, Remarkable Entertainments and Phillips Flooring.
